ORIGIN MYTHS & FACTS
Archaeological evidence says that people could have lived in Italy before the Greeks arrived. Early people built villages and farms. Between 2000 B.C. and 1000 B.C. Indo European immigrants arrived and overwhelmed Neolithic people. From 900 B.C. to 500 B.C. the Etruscans ruled northern Italy.
There is a Legend about a man named Romulus. Romulus was building a new city. His brother Remus jumped over the walls of the new settlement, Romulus killed him in a fit of rage. Romulus is said to have continued his building. Rome grew to include his brother’s hill. The myth tells us that Rome became the greatest city in that part of the peninsula.
The origins of Rome were less violent. Apparently, the Latins agreed to join and form one community, which became Rome.
